Upload files

Got a return policy, a price list, or a product manual sitting in a document? Upload it and your bot reads the text, indexes it, and answers from it. Four steps.

Step 1: Open the Files tab

Go to Knowledge base and click the Files tab.

Knowledge base, then the Files tab.

Step 2: Choose your file

Click Choose File and pick a document. We read PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD and CSV, so most policies, manuals and price lists work as they are.

Step 3: Upload and index

Click Upload and index. We pull the text out of the file and add it to the knowledge base.

Upload and index reads the file into the knowledge base.

Step 4: Check the status

Each file shows where it stands. Indexed means it is live and the bot can answer from it. Pending means it is still being read, which only takes a moment. Use the arrow to re-index after you replace a file, or the trash icon to remove it.

Two uploaded documents, one marked Indexed and one marked Pending.
Indexed is live; Pending is still processing.
Text beats scans

A file with real, selectable text works best. A scanned PDF that is really just an image has no text to read, so save it as a proper text PDF first.

Files or FAQs?

For short, common questions, a quick FAQ pair on the FAQ tab is often clearer than a whole document. Keep files for long reference material like policies and manuals.
